I'm fascinated by Americana. The pomp, circumstance, idolatry in its many forms. What is required to construct the anthropological glue necessary to hold such a economically, societally, racially and politically disparate territory together in some semblance of unity is unlike anything I have experienced elsewhere in the world.

Those symbols, often constructed but nonetheless the lynchpin of a shared identity which are now exported and globally recognisable, seem to embody whatever the recognised notion of 'American' is constantly redefined as being. A redefinition often at odds with its apparent founding philosophies.
